The Janka Hardness Scale:
In order to determine how hard your hardwood is, hte Janka test is employed to measure each hardwood species in relation to the others. Although this testing puts the hardwood under an extreme pressure that your hardwood flooring board is not likely to experience on a daily basis, it will give you an idea of how much wear each species can endure. The Janka hardness scale indicates the hardness of the hardwood based on a test that presses a .444 inch steel ball into the various hardwoods at a constant pressure. The deeper the ball is embedded, the softer is the wood. |
